On the Doom Steps at Maryworth one can meet the ghosts of smugglers coming down as you’re going up, ghosts of monks coming up as you’re coming down. It’s a dizzying place, where the phantoms of history are so thick that discombobulation is to be expected. – George Kindred, 1970 https://t.co/LYrcqnmyXa

@stellakateT @TheShakes72 So concerned for his son that he drove him while not sure whether his eyesight was good enough for driving with no regard for other road users. The truth is, they both showed a shameful attitude to the safety of others.

@TheShakes72 @stellakateT Underlying all this is an erosion of the compact between the governors and the governed. Actions that corrode trust, lesson the authority of the ruling class are a wound to the psychic glue that makes a nation work.

I feel obligated to point out that it if you are visiting Maryworth in hopes of capturing a glimpse of its alleged sea serpent, it’s probably not a good idea to enjoy it locally brewed beers – Storm-caster and Hag-wind – if you are going to climb the steps.

The Kinght’s Horse and the Knight’s Gauntlet standing stones. It is considered good manners to leave an offering of bran mash or apples for the horse, bad manners to touch the gauntlet except on special days. https://t.co/XMTq3T2Xqp

No. I am afraid not. However, next year, if @MariaStrutz and @PhilH86835657 are up for it, in there will be a 2022 Hookland calendar with key festival dates such as the Fathom Brides and Pale Harvest already marked.
