@Richard_Kadrey @altthrowawaylu1 @krishafairchild We had the scarelore that if you did it with a penny and got caught, the copper would only give you a headsmack, but if you did it with a tuppence and got caught you‰Ûªd be taken to the police station.

The old abbey at Long Mugford is noted for its two strange tombs known as ‰Û÷the drowning nuns‰Ûª which feature effigies of two nuns carved not in peaceful repose, but seemingly in the act of a violent drowning. Of course local folklore supplies several narratives to explain this.

@SwanRiverPress @Stevevolkwriter Whilst format of ghost bro shows (ghost team goes to Shingle Street looking for Nazi ghosts and it goes tits up) or the better paranormal investigation shows (reality unwinds the more they follow a psychic quest) are good formats for a script, they often fail in ‰Û÷reality‰Ûª mode.

Hookland 3/3/21 0:41:43

@SwanRiverPress @Stevevolkwriter It isn‰Ûªt even fun to do. Life itself is an act of narrative will and to invest in a serial paranormal reality format we need the same things we expect in a scripted format – characters with emotional bite and an interesting narrative trajectory.

@SwanRiverPress @Stevevolkwriter A criticism that can‰Ûªt be levelled at Helier, but which is fair when aimed at shows such as The Mary Toft Credibility Hour AKA Most Haunted, is that the format and presentation undermines all sense and senses of haunting – which you‰Ûªd think was a prerequisite of a good ghost show

@SwanRiverPress @Stevevolkwriter Hellier works as a dance with mystery, as a photographing of shadows which automatically raises it from the mire of most paranormal reality TV.

When our focus is stretch of a torch‰Ûªs beam, the limited length of lantern light, imagination runs into the dark spaces. This is a truth that we as writers of strange stories should acknowledge as a useful gift, not something we should try to eradicate with detail. – #CLNolan

@FeministRabble @MikeStuchbery_ As a founder of Folklore Against Fascism and a practitioner of folk horror, it just sounds like standard racist pisspuffinry which doesn’t have the imaginative juice to any other genre than white shite.

What I first thought was the sound of bones in the tomb cracking, I later discovered was the sound of bones rapidly growing out of the dust. – Extract of ‰Û÷An Account of the Ashcourt Necropolis Necromancer‰Ûª, first published 1857 in ‰Û÷The People‰Ûªs Periodical of Popular Terrors‰Ûª

Shadows of the Atomic Nosferatu gig this weekend at The Shambhala Rooms in Ashcourt. I‰Ûªve never worked out what lunacy led to naming a nightclub built above a concrete multi-storey car park after a mythical Buddhist kingdom. Normal for Hookland I guess. – #MattAdams, 1981
